Board meeting (8): Question one for Evaluation
In what ways does your media project use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
- Basically, how does our thriller incorporate generic conventions?
> someone goes missing, idea of being followed, scary guy all in black
> both characters are able bodied, white, cisgendered straight, middle class - not exactly challenging many stereotypes
> this was used because that's what we found out from our audience research
- How does our thriller develop or challenge these?
> challenges because the guy is the one being kidnapped instead of the girl
> Josh is our protagonist but is not able minded as his stereotype suggests
- Does the use of conventions indicate what sub-genre or hybrid genre your thriller is?
> Our genres are psychological / action / crime
> Psychological because of Josh's mental state
> action because of the running and abduction
> crime because it centres around a kidnapping
- Does the use of conventions indicate what other thrillers have influenced your work? If so, the be specific with examples.
> Psychological was influenced by the Butterfly Effect because the protagonist deals with mental illness
> Action / crime influenced by Taken as it focuses on kidnapping and the effects of it
