Editing (6) : A Day of Editing

I spent a day trying to finalise the editing of our thriller opening in order for a "first draft" to be watched at the end of the week. I had already placed all the clips together in order and cut them to look smooth and effective. I had also already began to edit the beginning. This meant that, throughout the day, I was able to work on the parts of the thriller that I hadn't focussed on - for example creating effects with the music and working on the credits.

- I began by putting the clips together to see where we had gaps in our opening and what we could do about them. We found that our opening only came to 1:30 and decided to include an extra scene to give the audience more knowledge of what happens after Josh goes missing. We also have decided to try and film snaps of the argument between Josh and Emma in order to fit between two scenes where we had no visuals.

- I then added background music, which began to evoke ideas in my head: for example I came up with the idea of having the music sound as though it was playing from a cassette tape, and therefore researched and downloaded sound effects to match this. I also then thought I could use other effects such as glitching to emphasise important scenes through the cassette tape.

- Furthermore, I used an audio that Evie created to tell the audience that Josh can't reach Emma on her phone: and we can then see that Emma is ignoring his calls. I adapted this audio to sound different coming from Emma's phone and when Josh is saying it.

- After this, I began to work on credits and decided to disorientate the audience by putting them in different corners each time. I didn't want them to be distracting or capture the audience's focus more than the actual thriller.

- I then rendered what I did throughout the day and will use it to compare the effectiveness of this version and when I have included and edited the additional footage we will be filming.
