Character Profile: Josh

Played by Josh Bull

CHARACTERISTICS

Male

17 years old

Emma's Boyfriend

In our thriller opening, Josh is shown to be selfless and caring, shown through his actions of going after Emma when he thinks she in in danger. However, through his monologue that we have layered over the top of this, we see his character flaw - he analyses the past too much that it hinders his ability to see forwards. Initially, the audience should think that this ideology is about him not realising Emma was going to leave him, but by the end of the thriller opening it is evident that what he couldn't see coming was something worse - him being attacked.

The irony within this monologue is that Josh is realising his character flaw - his inability to stop looking back - in hindsight.

Like many teens, Josh and Emma think they are untouchable, which makes it all the more surprising when something bad happens. This is something that our target audience would feel unsettling - the idea of not being in control - that we want to play around with in our thriller opening.

COSTUME

White

Short, dark brown hair

Blue eyes

No makeup

Smart/Casual clothing;

Light blue/grey t-shirt

Black trousers

Dark brown shoes

Josh's costume should illustrate his age, class and also a little about his character. Josh's family isn't neccecarily wealthy, but they are certainly well off. His clothes are fashionable, well fitted and clean to illustrate this. Josh isn't wearing a coat - even though we can tell it is cold since the two other characters - Emma and the Hidden Figure - are both wearing thick coats.

This is partly because as Josh left the house in a hurry, he didn't have time to grab a coat, but also to represent Josh's lack of planning or thinking ahead, which is a theme in our opening.
