CHARACTERISTICS
Female
17 Years Old
Josh's Girlfriend
Within the thriller opening, we don't see much of Emma's personality. All we know is that she left Josh's house after an argument, even though it was late, which shows the audience a tendency for Emma to let her emotions cloud her judgement. She is strong willed and stubborn to the point of being a little arrogant; ignoring Josh's calls where he begs her to come back. This slight arrogance, and assumption that she will be fine going home by herself, even though it is the middle of the night, is ultimately her character flaw, and goes hand in hand with Josh's inability to see ahead.
Like many teens, Josh and Emma think they are untouchable, which makes it all the more surprising when something bad happens. This is something that our target audience would feel unsettling - the idea of not being in control - that we want to play around with in our thriller opening.
COSTUME
White
Shoulder-length, light brown hair
Blue eyes
Minimal makeup
Smart/Casual
Black coat
Black trousers
Black pumps
Emma's costume is reasonably new looking, well-fitted and fashionable in order to reflect her age and class. She is wearing trousers - stereotypically masculine - rather than a skirt - stereotypically feminine - to aid the audience in imagining of a girl who can take care of herself.
