Filming our Thriller Opening
On the 2nd February, we went into Newport to film our final thriller opening.
We asked two fellow sixth formers to star in the film, and so at 4:00 we met to begin filming.
First, Evie recorded Josh's voiceover. We used two different recording devices to ensure that we captured all the sound needed, and also so that we were able to choose the best quality sound.
Meanwhile, Harriet and Lauren went to scout out a new location, which we eventually decided against using.
Next we went into town to film the shots we needed of Josh and Emma on their way to the train station. We ran into a few issues during this point - one being that we weren't able to film inside the local shop and the other being having to film around rush hour traffic. We worked around this by changing a few shots to allow the implication that the hooded figure left the shop, and we have tried out the zoom tool in post-production to hide the changes in traffic.
We tried to take each shot at least twice, just so that in post-production we will be able to use the ones that are most effective. We also filmed the same thing with different angles so that we can try out our ideas for Match on Action shots, for example while Josh was running we filmed a mid-shot and two different close-up shots.
When we reached the train station, we filmed all the necessary footage on one side of the platform before doing the same on the other, which saved us a lot of time. Again, we made sure to do each shot more than once and at different angles. Evie, towards the end of the shooting, filmed Emma's hurried run up the stairs with lots of different close-up shots which hopefully will be more effective when edited together.
Overall, we are happy with the way our filming came out and found that there was very little to complain about when looking back at it. We will have another Board Meeting in a little while to talk about anything we'd like to change and plan how we will effectively edit our opening.
