Audience Research - Interviewing our target audience
An important aspect of deciding what to include in our final piece is what our target audience want to see. We interviewed a few people within our desired age range in order to further develop our sense of what our audience wanted to see.
We asked the people we interviewed to give us examples of both their favourite and least favourite thriller films. This was useful when working out what elements of thriller films would appeal to our audience as well as what elements would push them away.
INTERVIEW 1
How old are you?
I'm 16.
Would you say that you often watch thriller films?
Occasionally.
What's your favourite thriller film? Why?
'Reservoir dogs', because it's a crime thriller and it keeps you guessing until the end.
What's your least favourite thriller film? why?
'Inception'. I think it's a bit too convoluted and over the top.
INTERVIEW 2
How old are you?
16.
Would you say that you often watch thriller films?
No.
What's your favourite thriller film? Why?
'Inception', because it's really complex and you have to understand how everything works in order to understand it. You have to watch it a few times.
What's your least favourite thriller film? Why?
'Jason Bourne', because it's just boring. Too much action, not enough intellectual content.
INTERVIEW 3
How old are you?
17.
Would you say that you often watch thriller films?
Yes.
What's your favourite thriller film? Why?
'Jason Bourne', because it has lots of action, and it's very tense, and... Matt Damon.
What's your least favourite thriller film? Why?
'The Woman in Black', because it was just unrealistically weird and scary and it was too psychological for me.
INTERVIEW 5

16.

Yes.
What's your favourite thriller film? Why?
My favourite thriller film is 'Before I go to Sleep', because it is complex and and you have to think about it and you don't know what is going to happen next.
What's your least favourite thriller film? Why?
'The Woman in Black', because I found it unrealistic.
