Analysing survey results
A couple of weeks after we sent out the survey, we found we had 80 responses. We were then able to read through and analyse the results, to decide on a suitable thriller for our target audience.
From this first question, we achieved the majority of the responses from the audience we wanted (13-18), which was good for us as the results would be very specific to them.
Again, we wanted our results to come from people who were generally interested and involved in the movie genre so that we could appeal to them more.
From the results of this question, we were able to see what kind of thriller would appeal to our audience the most. Since the top 3 results were Action, Crime and Psychological, we have decided to include aspects of all three to create a more diverse thriller, but also so that we can be more creative and appeal to more people.
We also received a number of comments of other sub-genres that people said they prefered to the ones we suggested.
Although we have taken these into account, there were significantly less of these suggested than sub-genres such as Action and Crime.
From this we saw that 'the idea of being watched or followed' was the most popular answer.
Based on this evidence, we have decided to incorporate this idea into our thriller opening.
Again, we received comments suggesting other ideas.
We have also taken these into account.
We received a fairly balanced result from this question, and have decided to include both a male and female lead.
Since over half of our respondents would prefer to see a character within the ages of 16-20 years old, this is what we have decided to do.
Since our most popular results were mystery and immediate action, we have decided to try and involve both into our opening effectively.
In our "other" section we received answers such as these:
We have taken these into account and linked them to the idea of mystery.
The next question asked survey takers to describe the best thriller opening they've seen. We got a lot of good answers that will help us understand what our audience enjoy.
These thriller openings have helped us to brainstorm our own ideas and will be valuable to what we make.
Finally, we asked why they liked the openings; we got all answers along the lines of these.
These answers will allow us to figure out why our opening would be effective and if not, how we could make it work more.
