Preliminary Task Evalution
For our preliminary task, we used a Canon digital video camera to film a minute long video of someone walking down a corridor, opening a door and having a brief conversation with another person. It was filmed as a series of short videos that were then edited together to make the full film.
Using a match-on-action shot to shoot someone opening a door and seeing them walk through from the opposite angle. As well as over-the-shoulder shots for filming the conversation. We also incorporated a cut-in shot to focus on the subject’s feet as they walked along. Another shot included was a follow shot, the camera moved with the subject as she walked down the hall at a constant distance.
The location consisted of starting outside and moving inside to a hallway inside the school. The subject then entered a classroom for the brief conversation to take place.
To edit our video, we used Final Cut Express. The editing included cutting each video to ensure smooth transition between each shot - usually a jump cut but did have one or two match-on-action shots.
The overall task took 40 minutes to film all the shots/angles we needed and 30 minutes for editing it all together.
Positives:
shots /angles filmed well
After editing, the film had smooth transitions and wasn’t too jumpy
Good cooperation between subjects and cameraman
Negatives:
Sound; lack of focus on the changes in sound when the shots changed
Few inaccuracies between shots, e.g.: door was still closing in one shot but completely shut in the next
